Tianying Yu (Angel)

Angel Tianying Yu is an animator and graphic designer at Honto 88. Raised in
Shanghai, China, she studied in New York City, where she earned a BFA in Illustration
and an MFA in Computer Arts from the School of Visual Arts. Her focus on illustration,
graphic design, motion graphics, and 2D animation.

Her use of animation and passion for printmaking influence her work, combining
traditional and digital media to create a colorful, spontaneous animation and illustration style. Her visual language is characterized by bold color patterns, dynamic shapes, and movement.
​
Since joining Honto 88 in 2022, she has led the animation team for the musical
documentary Tuning René Marie, creating line animations over live footage to trace René’s legendary musical life and amplify her magnetic voice. The flowing, emotional lines in her work add soul to the story, making it fluid and allowing for spontaneous visual elements to emerge.

In commercial projects, she has created promotional videos for Huntington Learning Center, where she was responsible for character design, storyboarding, and motion graphics. She is also working on the HP Foundation's 2024 Digital Equity Accelerator project, creating promotional videos and posters, with responsibilities including graphic design and motion graphics.
